Jessica Weber (Patterson)
Is a mixed-media collage, print and photography artist
Jessica has been influenced by various factors throughout her life, leading her to explore a diverse range of mediums and styles. Her artistic journey began many years ago in the performing arts and contemporary dance. Subsequently, she pursued a Bachelor of Arts degree in photography at the esteemed University of the Arts in London, graduating in 2008. This educational background paved the way for a successful career in the field of photography, which she pursued for several years. In addition to her photography career, Jessica embarked on a freelance role as a picture editor in the news media industry in Berlin in 2014. This experience has had a profound impact on her personal life and artistic development. It instilled in her a deep appreciation for uncovering the human narrative and critically examining the societal constructs that shape our existence. To convey these themes, Jessica began incorporating collaged elements into her photography, both digitally and manually. This fusion of mediums allowed her to delve deeper into her exploration of the human story. In early 2020, she joined the Stattlab, a renowned Screenprint & Analog Photography Lab in Berlin, to further expand her artistic repertoire by incorporating various printing techniques into her work.
After moving to a remote spot on the west coast of Ireland in late 2021, after spending most of her life in major capital cities, Jessica became enthralled by the natural world. She now spends her time between Donegal and Belfast.
The convergence of her recently established affinity for nature, her lessons in human culture and urban living, has profoundly influenced her artistic expression. Her creations exhibit a vibrant palette and an inclination towards experimentation. By collaging diverse printed textures, images, and forms, and employing a range of techniques, she crafts abstract components that retain a hint of realism through the exploration of societal concerns, popular culture, folklore, and the broader human experience on Earth
To this day she continues to work as a freelance picture editor, whilst having her work sold, published, and exhibited, as an artist. She is a member of the Belfast Print Workshop.
